Language Activities for Children | Structured Programs for Language Therapy
What can we do if a child or teen is struggling with language skills?
How can we help them communicate effectively and achieve their ELA and language goals in school?
On this page, we’ll show you the different types of language skills that we can work on in language therapy with children and teens. We’ll also give you links to our top language resources and programs.
What is Language? How Can we Work on ELA or Language Skills with Children and Tens?
When a child is having trouble using words, sentences, and language to communicate with others, speech-language pathologists can provide language therapy to boost their skills. Language therapy can target skills like using grammatically correct sentences, asking and answering questions, following directions, understanding and using vocabulary words, and speaking coherently about a topic. We can even provide language therapy for children who aren’t yet speaking or who don’t know how to say many words yet. Language therapy can be conducted in schools, at home, or in clinics.

About the Author: Carrie Clark, MA CCC-SLP
Hi, I’m Carrie! I’m a speech-language pathologist from Columbia, Missouri, USA. I’ve worked with children and teenagers of all ages in schools, preschools, and even my own private practice. I love digging through the research on speech and language topics and breaking it down into step-by-step plans for my followers.
Fun Fact: I love plant shopping! I could spend all day wandering around a plant nursery and going through all of the greenhouses. Bonus if it’s a nice sunny day as well. I need LOTS of great sunshine!
